UK Top 10 June 6 1975

Michael Fish rains on someone's parade

Van McCoy : The Hustle

If you want to know why Punk Rock was inevitable, look no further than the UK top ten this week in 1975. Yes, 10cc's "I'm Not in Love" is one of the most extraordinary tunes of the entire year, but the rest of this list is filigree and fluff.

2. WINDSOR DAVIES AND DON ESTELLE: Whispering Grass

3. SHOWADDYWADDY: Three Steps to Heaven

4. VAN MCCOY: The Hustle

5. JOHNNY NASH : Tears on My Pillow
6. GARY GLITTER: Doing Alright With the Boys

7. THE OSMONDS: The Proud One
8. HAMILTON BOHANNON: Disco Stomp

9. WINGS: : Listen to What the Man Said
10. RAY STEVENS : Misty

  1. I was nearly falling of my chair laughing watching the guy in the white suit "dancing" in the "Disco Stomp" clip!

  2. .........those white trousers are the total bifters. I have no recollection of the song, though. Yes, not the greatest top-ten ever.

  3. Why did the UK love the Osmonds anyway?

  5. Looking back on the lyrics to that G Glitter song (and knowing now what one didn't know then), perhaps the wholesomeness of the Osmonds act was the appeal that 'crossed over' the generations and boosted sales (of even their lesser singles)?

    Cheers
