A year before The Hollies took the song to #6 in the US, Phil Everly recorded the Albert Hammond song "The Air That I Breathe" as the lead off track for his first solo album Star Spangled Springer, released in May of 1973. Despite Billboard Magazine's assurances to dealers : "As one-half of the world-known Everly Brothers act, you're assured certain built-in sales", Star Spangled Springer did not sell many copies. And that's a shame. It's a soft rock treasure with production from Duane Eddy and arrangements by Warren Zevon. One nugget is Phil's own "Snowflake Bombadier" which features some nice guitar from Eddy.
