Julia Roberts in 1975 |
Let's face it! Most people introduced to the music of Pavlov's Dog never got past the high-pitched vibratto vocals of David Surkamp. Well, they missed out on one of the better, more melodic progressive-pop albums of 1975.
With Blue Oyster Cult producers Sandy Pearlman and Murray Krugman at the board, Pampered Menial sold enough copies to reach #181 on the album charts before their label, ABC/Dunhill, abandoned the band. Columbia picked up the contract and released the ballad "Julia" as the single to little effect.
Would they have been bigger with a more approachable vocalist?
