The Incentive To Learn

Simple Minds : Premonition

On November 1, 1979 Simple Minds released Real To Real Cacophony, the band's second album. The album failed to sell well although it was hailed by critics. Red Starr of Smash Hits felt it was necessary to give the album two reviews. He first gave the album 8 out of 10 writing, "Only a couple of tracks are recognisable mainstream Simple Minds as this excellent imaginative young band disappear into a whirlpool of electronic effects, Magazine and Bryan Ferry Impersonations."

A month later Starr writes he's discovered the true brilliance of album, "but it's all there --strong melodies, vivid imagination, intense atmosphere and the unique stamp of Kim Kerr's uncanny dark genius. Truly a band for the 80's and a MUST for your collection. Best tracks: "Premonition", "Calling Your Name". (91/2 out of 10)

Although I have highlighted the more mainstream songs on the album check out "Veldt" from the more experimental Side One. We are still five years away from "Don't You (Forget About Me)".
