Buzzcocks : Oh Shit

On February 2, 1978 The Buzzcocks finally released their "What Do I Get" b/w "Oh Shit" single,  beginning a thirteen month stretch of immaculate post punk/ power pop 45's.   There had--yet again-- been a bit of a hold up at the pressing plant where sensitive EMI employees objected to the name of the break up song on the B side.

Sound familiar? Record packers has threatened a walk out months earlier because of "Orgasm Addict's" cover. With the crisis averted, The Buzzcocks did their round of TV appearances including Top of the Pops, made a low budget video, and broke into the U.K. Top 40 for the first time, peaking at #37.

It may have been one of Manchester's "scuzziest" nightclubs, but on August 3, 1977 , hometown faves The Buzzcocks wowed the crowd and those behind the video cameras with a new song about the loneliness of sleeping in a half empty bed. Recorded the following month, "What Do I Get" would provide the Buzzcocks with their U.K. chart debut, peaking at #37 in early 1978.
