Thrown at Great Speed

Wire : A Question of Degree

On June 2 1979 Wire released "A Question of Degree" b/w "Former Airline". The single bridged the gap between Chairs Missing and 154. Graham Lewis wrote the former song while touring the United States and it can be interpreted as a road song, especially with the lyrics

I was thrown at great speed
From a passing car
I didn't touch the ground
Till I landed at your door
Oh don't touch my luggage

The bizarre B-side, "Former Airline",  gets its name from the chords B-E-A, British European Airways, which ended its service in 1974.

Squeeze released the Cool For Cats track "Up The Junction" as their new single on this date as well. It would peak at U.K.#2.
