Neil Ardley : Prologue/Rainbow One
British composer Neil Ardley combines an ARP Odyssey synth with a large, thirteen-piece jazz orchestra on his funky 1976 jazz rock album Kaleidoscope of Rainbows. Based on Balinese scales, there are quiet, atmospheric soundscapes often followed by rhythmic, blissed-out melodies. A few years after the album's release, a Balinese dance troupe toured Australia, performing to the music of this album.
Ardley would devote most of his life to writing best-selling science books for children, including How Things Work, which sold three million copies.
