Paranoid Time introduces The Minutemen

Minutemen : Paranoid Chant

In December of 1980 The Minutemen released Paranoid Time, their six and a half minute seven-song debut EP on Black Flag's SST Records. Based in San Pedro, CA The Minutemen describe themselves as "a collection of three bozos. One's fat and screams and bangs guitar (d. boon) . Another is skinny and tall ( he thumps bass and yells too) (Mike Watt) . The drummer is kind of buffed out. ( George Hurley) ".

Watt says listening to Wire and Pop Group transformed the band from a sex Pistols/Clash/Jam cover band into what you're hearing here: short songs, no guitar solos, some funk and jazz influences, and the smartest lyrics in punk.

On "Paranoid Chant", Boon shouts

I try to talk to girls and I keep thinking of World War III!/
The goddamn six o'clock news makes sure I keep thinking of World War III!'
