On May 5, 1974 , two years before he became Watford F.C. club chairman, Elton John put on a benefit concert for his favorite team and invited special guests Rod Stewart and Nazareth. Watford is known as the Hornets so Elton arrived on stage dressed as a hornet. By some accounts, this is the show in which Elton introduced his future single, a cover of The Beatles's "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds".
Elton and Rod have a chummy friendship. Elton calls Rod "Phyllis" and Rod calls Elton "Sharon". Together they performed "Country Comfort", "Angel" and "Sweet Little Rock 'n Roller".
