Times Square soundtrack introduces Americans to UK post punk

XTC : Take This Town

On September 8, 1980 RSO Records released the Times Square soundtrack, a month before the film about "the life and hard times of two juvenile runaways cast adrift in New York's jungleville". The movie wasn't well received, but the soundtrack introduced my teenage American self to bands like The Cure, The Ruts and XTC, whose "Take This Town" is unique to this album.

The Ramones, Suzi Quatro , Talking Heads, Patti Smith and Lou Reed are also featured on the album as well as such curiosities as Robin Gibb and Marcy Levy and a pair of songs sung by one of the film's actresses, Robin Johnson.
