That "Vacation" hit? The Go-Go's didn't record it first

Textones : Vacation

In May of 1980, The Textones, a quartet that included Austin-based bandmates Carla Olson and Kathy Valentine, released their debut EP on England's Chiswick Records label. Among the songs is a Valentine-penned tune called "Vacation", which would be the title track of the second album by her next band, The Go-Go's. The Go-Go's would also record another Valentine song from this era, " Can't Stop The World" while future Textone Phil Seymour would record her song "We Don't Get Along". The EP's release comes the same month The Go-Go's are touring England in support of their first hit "We Got The Beat".

Here's "Vacation":

The Textones were based in LA by the time they made the recording, drawing fans and press. L.A. Times writer Richard Cromelin stated "The two singer-guitarists present a striking contrast: Olson with her long , blonde hair and gaunt face, looks like the sophisticated older sister, while the perky, pouty Valentine, sporting a short, spiky cut, could be the family's troublesome tomboy. Their voices make an equally intriguing pairing: Olson's is trained and 'mature,' Valentine's brusque, nasal and punky.

The EP also included a faithful cover of Tom Petty's "I Can't Fight It".
