NRBQ releases another great driving song with Me and the Boys

NRBQ: Me And The Boys

In August of 1980 NRBQ released one of their all-time greatest singles, "Me And The Boys". Written by Terry Adams,  this is NRBQ's second essential road song. The other is 1977's "Ridin' In My Car", of course. Apparently the band got the shifting engine gears sound by using a basketball scoreboard buzzer that was starved for voltage by a variable power transformer.  Genius! Also, Terry adds: "there is no electric guitar on the record except for the end of the bridge".

I'm not sure how many copies NRBQ sold but both Bonnie Raitt and Dave Edmunds recorded cover versions. Neither matches the energy of the original.

Smooth voiced bassist Joey Spaminato sings lead with plenty of reverb. "Me And The Boys" was always a highlight of an NRBQ show and I've seen plenty.

NRBQ is a favorite band of Simpsons executive producer Mike Scully. Here's how "Me And The Boys" made it into an episode.

Terry Adams still plays "Me And The Boys" with this updated version of NRBQ. Whoever shot this video is standing so close to the keyboard we get to hear Terry isolated . Terry has never been note-perfect in concert. It's all about making sure people have fun.
