Spurn My Natural Emotions

Buzzcocks : Ever Fallen in Love

On September 8, 1978 The Buzzcocks released "Ever Fallen in Love (With Someone You Shouldn't've), their biggest hit and NME's #1 track of the year. Inspired by a line from the musical Guys and Dolls, Pete Shelley wrote the lyrics in a van. This band was right in the midst of an incredible roll, documented on the Singles Going Steady collection.

If The Buzzcocks's question is answered honestly, most of us would say yes we have fallen in love with someone who spurned our natural emotions and made us feel like dirt. And complaining out loud only meant losing what little time we had together. In retrospect maybe it was "just lust", the title of the B side.

The Fine Young Cannibals gave the song an unfortunate 80's treatment and scored a UK Top 10 hit.
